Yuki Nishioka-Dalton
Yuki grew up in Japan where she received a typical Asian early gifted education in classical violin, and won several international and national competitions in both solo and chamber music categories. After graduating from university, she continued working as a professional violinist while reconsidering her identity as an artist. In the process, she encountered Irish traditional music and moved to Ireland in 2008. After travelling around Ireland searching for music, she settled in Limerick, where she lives with her Irish husband and their two sons.
Since moving to Ireland, Yuki has devoted her¹self to studying music education and is qualified to teach Suzuki, Dalcroze, Kodaly (Primary and Early Years), and Colourstrings (Kindergarten). From 2010 for 14 years, Yuki was involved in the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s outreach programme and taught violin at local primary schools. Since 2019, she has worked as a full-time teacher at the Limerick School of Music and has also been involved in the partnership programmes. Yuki leads the Grassroots Orchestra and teaches Gateway musicianship sessions (preschoolers and Early Years of Primary children), musicianship class (older children), as well as individual violin lessons.
As a freelance violinist, Yuki is active in a wide range of scenes, including being invited to play as the leader in many orchestras, playing in bands for musicals around Munster and Connacht, and chamber music concerts with local musicians.
Since 2022, Yuki has been doing an MA in Education (Early Childhood) at Birmingham City University, researching practices centred on children’s rights and autonomy with researchers at the forefront of early childhood music education.
