Flautist Oisin McGill, graduated from the CIT Cork School of Music with both a first-class Honours M.A in performance and BMus Degree and holds a Licentiate Diploma in Flute Performance with distinction from Trinity College London. Upon graduating, he was awarded the Pro Musica Trophy from the CIT Cork School of Music for most outstanding student from the Department of Wind, Brass, Percussion, Voice and Drama.
During his time at the CIT Cork School of Music, Oisin was a finalist and winner of many competitions and awards including the RTÉ Vanbrugh String Quartet Chamber Music Competition, the Young Artist Competition sponsored by Trevor James Flutes, CIT Cork School of Music Senior Recital Competition and the RTÉ Lyric FM Instrumental Bursary at Sligo Feis Ceoil. He was also privileged to be chosen to study and perform in masterclasses with some of the world’s leading flute players including Sir James Galway, Michael Cox, Paul Edmund Davis, Lorna McGhee, Sharon Bezaly amongst many others.
As a professional musician, Oisin is much in demand as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician, having broadcast and toured extensively. He has appeared as guest soloist and performed concertos with various ensembles including the CSM Chamber Orchestra, CSM Wind Ensemble and the Belfast Harp Orchestra. Oisin held the position of Principal Flute in the Army Band of the Southern Command for five years before pursuing a career in music education.
Oisin has a wealth of experience teaching in various settings – from early years to degree level, private one-to-one lessons in music conservatoires to providing music workshops for community days. He is in regular demand for flute and educational workshops across Ireland and is a regular tutor on many residential/non-residential wind/brass courses Before taking up his full-time position at The Limerick School of Music, Oisin was the lead wind tutor with Music Generation Cork City. In this role, he developed, managed, and led many educational projects and was also pivotal in the creation of a new educational band program in Mahon, resulting in the creation of the Mahon Community Concert band.
At present, Oisin is a flute, recorder, and musicianship teacher at the Limerick School of Music. He holds the position of Assistant Principal and is delighted to be part of a team that values music education and has holistic approach to students and their learning, to transform and empower them through music education for a successful future.
