About

Michael graduated from the Cork School with a First Class Honours Masters in
Piano and Organ Accompaniment in 2015, and BMus degree in 2013, studying
with Eleanor Malone and James Taylor. He has also completed diplomas in
piano performance (dipABRSM), piano teaching (DipLCM TD), organ
performance (ALCM) and a Licentiate diploma in vocal and instrumental
accompaniment (LLCM). Michael works extensively as an accompanist in the
Munster area and has been an official vocal accompanist of the Feis Maitiu
since 2014 and of the Féile Luimnigh (Limerick) since 2011.


Michael works extensively as a choral accompanist and proudly held the post
of organ scholar at St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick for five years. This pushed
him to study organ at Masters level and performed Langlais’ Messe Solennelle
with chamber choir Voci Nuove as his final recital. Since 2017, Michael has
been the organist for UCH’s “Limerick Sings” gala concert and is also was the
organist for the premiere performance of the winning piece for UL’s
Ceremonial Musical Composition Competition in 2019.


He also has a keen interest in musical theatre and has played for over eighty
theatre productions. He has been the musical director for the Cecilians
Musical Society since 2018, with his work on The Producers winning “Best
Chorus” and runner up best show at the AIMS awards 2019. He is a past
musical director of the CIT Musical Society, musically directing their award-
winning Irish Premieres of Carrie (2015), Bare (2016) (Best Chorus award at
AIMS) and Bad Girls (2018). He was thrilled to receive a national AIMS award
“Best Musical Director” for his work on Bare in 2016. In 2014 Michael founded
his own theatre company, NMT Productions, and has since produced and
musically directed the Irish Premieres of When Midnight Strikes (2014), LIFT
(2015), Dogfight (2016) and a production of The Last Five Years (2017). Other
musical director credits include Cats (Phoenix Productions, Thurles), Man of La
Mancha (Cork Arts Theatre/Marion Wyatt), Annie, Oliver, The Wizard of Oz,
Jesus Christ Superstar, Jekyll & Hyde (Newcastlewest Musical Society), Crazy
For You, Hairspray (Firkin Crane, Cork), Miss Saigon, The Scarlet Pimpernel
(Centrestage Youth Theatre), Our House, Back to the 80s, Mamma Mia
(Glenstall Abbey, Limerick). He has worked as a repititeur for chamber
productions of the operas “Riders to the Sea” by Vaughan-Williams, “The
Medium” by Gian Carlo Menotti and “Savitri” by Gustav Holst, as part of the
Kilkenny Opera Festival (Mid-West Opera/Owen Gilhooly).
