What we teach in Speech and Drama?

Our Speech and Drama course train students in Prose, Poetry, Drama, Sight-Reading, Public Speaking, Theory, Mime and Improvisation. Beginners to grade II students share group classes, with a maximum of three students in a class. Grade III to diploma level students take an individual class.

Course structure

The courses are structured to follow a natural path of progression through the grades to diploma level. We offer examinations from grade I to grade V when students will progress to Bronze (Grade VI), Silver (Grade VII) and Gold Medal (Grade VIII) Examinations in both Speech and Performance. Students who complete their studies to Gold Medal level will then have the option to take Diploma Examinations within the Limerick School of Music. These exams provide a rigorous test of knowledge, technical expertise and interpretative skills, and are orientated to the needs of those who wish to become professional drama practitioners or who wish to teach Speech and Drama and communications as a career.

Opportunities to learn with other students

·  Students aged 7-12 are encouraged to participate in the Musical Drama class where they will have the opportunity to develop some musical skills in addition to those of speech and drama.

·  Secondary school-aged students will be encouraged to join in the Intermediate Acting Class

Adult students (i.e. those who have left school) may join our Senior Acting class.
