Course Summary

Junior Certificate Music is a two-year course consisting of both written (Listening and Composition) and practical (performance) elements.  The written examination takes place during the state examinations in June of each year and the practical examination takes place in the Spring, usually just before or after the Easter holidays: the Department of Education decides these dates.

Limerick School of Music students usually take the higher level examination.  A student may opt to study Junior Certificate Music at Limerick School of Music who is otherwise not a student here. An external student wishing to study Junior Certificate Music must be learning an instrument and music notation external to the Junior Certificate class however.


Classes take place once a week and are timetabled for 1.5 hours

Junior Certificate 1 & 2 classes apply to 2nd year and 3rd year students respectively.
